A beautiful Steffie faced doll from Lori, Christie is just so cute and her hair is great. It was wild but I tamed it a little, although it has real wire in it which is hard to tame :)

This Christie along with Pink & Pretty are just some of the most stunning dolls from the early 80's.

1982 Bride Tracy in Twice as Nice Fashion

This is my 2nd Tracy as I was not keen on my first girls face paint so I sold her on.

This lady is stunning, just perfect with thick hair. I didn't know what to dress in her in so tried this Twice as Nice outfit from my friend Lori (who I also got Tracy from) and she was turned in into a Latino looking goddess.

After a long spell of collecting Sindy & Barbie, I was looking for something in my (now) smaller Jem box. I thought as this is Barbie Vs Jem I would take a few pictures of the girls I now have. I have managed to get myself down to (pretty much) one of each doll as at one point I had 100+

These surviving girls are who I think are the prettiest ones of the dolls I had. More pictures to come so stay tuned...

Danse of The Holograms

Danse was one of the last Jem dolls I got as a kid, I don't think I played much with her as she is not amazingly beautiful like some of the other dolls but I have a great appreciation off her now. Her outfit is amazing, shame they didn't make her hair a bit longer like the cartoon version.

Synergy of The Holograms

I don't believe Synergy was ever released in the UK so I never had her as a kid as I am sure I would have done, I don't think we got Jetta either but I may be wrong.

Synergy is such a cool doll as she is purple. Her outfit looks nothing like the one on the show, and makes her look like an 80's alien fitness instructor

Roxy was always a favourite doll for me and my sister as kids. This is the 2nd edition Roxy and she differs a little to my original 1st edition. My original girl had polker straight hair like my original Pizzazz. I do prefer the 2nd year dolls as they seem to move better and have nicer hair. I never got any of the 2nd year dolls as a kid as I wasn't keen on the clothes. I did get them again when I started to re-collect but again I didn't like the clothes so packed them off to someone that did ;)

One of my favourite dolls in the Jem range is Kimber. Over the years I have had quite a few but since streamlining down this is my favourite Kimber. She is closer to the 2nd edition with the cute face, long thick hair and pastel makeup. Her hair is just amazing!

1992 - Special Expressions Barbie (Whitney)

Such a beauty!

Special Expressions Barbie is a Woolworth exclusive to the USA in 1992, my friend Lori had sent me a list of Steffie faced dolls and I just glanced over the name thinking she would have some sort of strange expressions face. How wrong I was, this beautiful girl arrived in the box and was a huge surprise. She is one of my favourite girls now and is clearly Whitney. She looks a lot like the rare Ultra Hair Whitney so maybe her face and makeup where re-used? She has the most beautiful hair as it's a light brown shade and so shiny & glossy. Thanks again to Lori :)

1985 - Peaches & Cream Barbie

Peaches was a childhood favourite doll. Barbie was a great in 1984/5 and the UK was really pushing forward Barbie over Sindy and I was hooked as I was an easy influenced kid ;)

I won this girl with an 1987 Sindy for 99p, she is an original Peaches too. I spotted her her a mile off so was pleased that on one did as she is quite popular due to the re-release. I have had her a while but she gets to show her face here as my friend Lori sent me her outfit. Thanks Lori :)

Lights and Lace Teresa falls just out of my usual collecting era but I couldn't resist her. With her big brown eyes and masses of dark hair.

I am going to say nothing about the whole concept of this doll or what they dressed the poor thing in. The belt is the light and as for the oversized hairbow?!

A quick hair touch up, new dress and Jems earrings she looks a bit less like 80's Cyndi Lauper at a kids party! The dress is an outfit I loved as a kid and was a bargain at 50p from e-bay

1983 Sun Gold Malibu P.J.

The Pink & Pretty Girls!

Pink & Pretty Barbie was my favorite as a kid, My sister got her me a few years back in the box so I was happy. I then found a picture of Pink & Pretty Christie and instantly fell in love with her but not the cost. She was like $170+ in the box so I never dreamed I would get her.

My wonderful new Barbie pal said she had a spare so I jumped at the offer of owning her and she is now in my top 3 dolls!

She had rather thick matted hair at first, I tried a makeover but I still wasn't happy with the results as it was all bushy and hard to manage. I boiled the kettle ready to straighten it.

When I nervously poured the water over her head, all the fuzz seemed to disappear and keep the beautiful wave to it. I have never tried this method on Barbie before but it worked and gave me the perfect result.

1987 - Perfume Pretty Whitney

I have wanted Perfume Pretty Whitney for a long time,I had Perfume Pretty Barbie as a kid and I got her again a few years back but she had rubbish hair so I sold her on. On the back of the box it showed the beautiful Whitney doll and I have wanted her since. With the help of my new Barbie friend who is also a Steffie Faced collector I managed to get her loose as she is hard to find in the UK and she is a stunner.

She needed a little hair makeover (as she had toybox hair LOL) but it came out well considering that they used 2 fabrics for her hair and the lighter highlights are made from fuzzy material!

1991 - Benetton Teresa

Benntton Teresa is quite stunning and not a doll i really knew about as she falls just out of my 80's era of collecting. A new Barbie friend suggested her to me as I was buying a few Steffie faced dolls from her. I am glad I took her up on the offer as she is quite stunning and unusal. With her stunning hair and beautiful eyes she certainly stands out as does her outfit.

Jewel Secrets Whitney is one of the most stunning dolls I think have ever been produced.

I think she just looks so Dallas/Dynasty in this outfit.

Barbie & Whitney.

I have wanted Jewel Secrets Whitney for as long as I have been re-collecting Barbie. Trouble has been at £100+ she is very pricey and highly sought after.

I recently decided to sell/trade some Jem clothes and came across a guy who had her boxed and wanted to trade. I am waiting for Whitney to arrive as she is coming from the USA on the boat so 4-6 weeks is the expected time frame. In the meantime I saw this Whitney on e-bay from the same UK seller as I got Sweet Roses P.J. so I could not resist putting a bid in. I did not think I would win her for the minimum asking price but I did. I think that the seller did not put Barbie in the title so maybe she was overlooked, who knows. My boxed Whitney will stay minty (when she arrives) and this little lady will become a model for any fashions I pick up in the future.

1987 - Jewel Secrets Barbie

This is the African American version of Jewel Secrets Barbie. I got her at a bargain price from e-bay mint in the box. I never had her as a kid and that bloody skirt/tote bag thing is just awful.

I think the AA version is cute though and she looks better out of the skirt. See Jewel Secrets Whitney for more pics.

1983 - Sweet Roses P.J. (2)

This is my 2nd Sweet Roses P.J. I had a P.J phase a few years back and got this version of her. I was never really taken with her so I sold her on. Since then my passion for the Steffie faced dolls has increased so I got her back. I won this lady from a lovely U.K seller, She came with very matted hair due to her curls. It took me nearly an hour to comb the dreadlocks into this style. She is sweet but not my favorite girl in the Steffie/P.J. range.

P.J. are my initials too incidentally!

1983 - Loving You Barbie

Loving you Barbie is one of my childhood favorite dolls, and she was my sisters! She was a bit overly "hearty". She came with a a little stamp and some heart shaped paper which I was not really interested in that much. What I love most about this Barbie is her bright red lipstick, striking eyes and of course that beautiful strawberry blonde hair.
This little lady has been residing at my sisters house for a while and became a bath doll for the kids so I decided to rescue her back to my collection and replaced her with a My First Barbie :)

I havn't updated Barbie Vs Jem for a while as I have been collecting Sindy. Whilst looking for Sindy on e-bay I found this littly lady along with a Pink & Pretty Barbie. I bid at £1.99 and won!

I couldn't really see in the picture if she had her socks and pumps but she did so A complete fashion that I had as a kid. Barbie is also very cute and is the 1984 My First Barbie, I really liked her as a kid so it's nice to have her back in the collection. Pink & Pretty wasn't that Pretty so went back onto e-bay as I have her boxed!

Twice As Nice "Double Date" on Crystal Barbie

Tropical Island Fun with Barbie & Miko

These are my $5 bargains from the USA. As you may already know my sister got me Miko for Christmas in the box. I contacted a private seller who was selling Tropical Barbie and Island Fun Miko and Barbie at $5.00. He wrote back to say Island Fun Miko had been sold but had Tropical Miko for the same price. It turns out that Miko was listed on his site at $25 so I think I got a great bargain at $5. It was only a week later when my sister surprised me with Miko in her box. So now I have 2

Island Fun Barbie has the sweetest face (If her eyes look a little strange my camera seems to make them look a bit kookeyed) Its a shame her hair is a tad fuzzy but I may be able to get some conditioner on it to chill it out a bit.

Miko is just a stunning doll, I was going to sell her on after my sisters suprise however she looks totally different next to her so I decided to keep her.

I always rememeber Tropical Barbie being more pretty than this one here. I still like her and her hair is just so silky, long and soft.

I think Miko on the left looks more Hawiiain, she has more green eyshadow too. They are both very pretty dolls.

I just love Dance Club Kayla, she uses the beautiful Diva mold. She is very Jem inspired with her outfit. She has the most amazing hair. I am not too much in to the later 80's dolls but Kayla really stood out and with her being a bargain price too. I don't think she was released in the UK.

She comes with some rather cool shades!

You can just make Kayla out in this advert, Barbie is just awful in this range, Devon is Ok but I won't be getting her in a hurry! I don't know why the range was "Dance Club" as they don't actually have any special feature to make them dance?

1987 Perfume Pretty Barbie (SOLD)

I would think that Perfume Pretty Barbie would have been one of the last Barbie's I got as a kid that I can remember. I was really quite dissapointed with her as her hair is rather dry and quite cheap to be honest. Maybe I got a duff one though?

It was the dress that reminded me of her, you can have it long or short.

I remember trying to squeeze Jem into this dress, it wouldn't fasten as she is quite a bit wider.

Perfume looks much prettier on her box art that I have previously posted and in this great UK ad. She was priced at £11.99 back in 1987 which is pretty pricey for those days. I remember Jem being £12.99 and I thought she was more deluxe than good old Babs!

Great Shape Barbie & Ken UK Versions

Here are my Great Shape Barbie & Ken, which are quite different to thier US versions.
I don't know why they are green, my only thought is maybe it was to do with Tennis that year in the UK and we did have a TV fitness lady called the "green goddess" who wore a green suit like Barbie's.
Barbie herself is quite different with her strawberry hair and dark green eyes. She is a very unusual Barbie.

When I saw Great Shape Barbie on the web I only saw the blue & pink US version so it never clicked my memory on having both Barbie & Ken from this set. When I stumbled accross them on e-bay I remembered them. I got them really cheap,with skipper too but the pink version.
I didn't have many Ken dolls as a kid but I did like this one.

1982 Twirly Curls Barbie

I won Twirly Curls quite by accident. I was bidding on Peaches & Cream (Which I lost) but also bid on Twirly from the same seller hoping to get both for a bargain. I forgot I had bid on Twirly for 99p until I noticed I had won her for 99p!
She turned up looking like a wild woman, crazy hair, filthy and stinking (No the seller didn't say any of that)
After a scrub up she does look nice, she came with all her stuff too (Ribbons, Chair, Clips, Comb etc) so I can't really complain at my 99p win.

Twirly was always a favourite as a kid, I remember my sister getting her for her birthday and being insanely jealous.

1982 Bride Tracy (SOLD)

I got Tracy at a bargain price as her box was pretty shoddy.

I went for obviously as she has the Steffie face and really pretty green eyes.

She doesn't photograph that well though I must say as she is much prettier.

The first picture is Tracy before I took her hair out of the twists as the bands had disintergrated.

I am not a huge fan of brides and would never have gone for her as a kid if I had seen her, but she is quite different which makes me like her.

Barbie & The Rockers where Mattel's rival for Jem & The Holograms. While these dolls are not a great as Jem, they have to been seen in their own right. I love Diva, Dana & Derek who are all on my wishlist. Barbie is the most dissapointing of the range but is being re-released this year.

The fashions are also very Jem esque and a great looking set of fashions. I think another set that I will invest in.

1985 Tropical Miko

Tropical Miko is an old favourite of mine (As is Tropical Barbie). We originally got Miko in July 1987 on a trip to Florida. It was very difficult to find Barbie's friends in the UK (If they stocked them at all?) so when we saw Miko we loved her.

My sister bought me this Miko for Christmas 2008 and she is a beauty.

I had quite a few of these dolls as a kid, Crystal, Loving You, Shaping Up Ken & Barbie (UK Green versions) I have now got Crystal, Shaping Up and the beautiful Sweet Roses P.J.

I really don't understand Happy Birthday Barbie's hair at all but she does look familiar so maybe I had her. I love Twirly Curls Barbie, she was always a favourite as a kid.

The Sun Malibu range are also really nice looking, P.J. is on my wish list. We definatly had the blue mini dress too!

I just recently aquired Bride Tracy, she has that cute Steffie face.

Ahh the Twice As Nice range, I love them all, I think we had them all as kids too. This is a range I want to collect them all from.

I had been checking out Shaping Up Barbie on line however I had no memory of owning her as a kid, until I this picture in an e-bay listing. I instantly recognised the fashion and Kens fashion too.

For some reason the UK "Shaping Up" set are in green and white whereas the rest of the world seemed to get blue and pink (like Skippers outfit, which as you may notice doesn't match Barbie & Ken) Maybe it was something to do with the Tennis over here perhaps? I will investigate...

I had a cassette with "Who Is He Kissing", "Jelousy" & "Universal Appeal" on as a kid and I couldn't remember where I got it from (as it didn't come with any of the dolls) until I found this advert.

Jem/Jerrica was my 2nd “Jem” doll and only lost out to Pizzazz as she had a cassette tape with her.
Original Jem is very pretty in my opinion however they could have done so much more with her instead of the 2 tone hair. Perhaps wigs, extensions or even colour pens would have been better. I have now made my own Jem Re-Root with long thick Pink hair who I think is rather fabulous…I think I would have killed to have her as a kid!

Pizzazz was my very first doll from the series; I had no knowledge of the Jem range until they appeared in Toy n Hobby sometime in 1986, I spent at least an hour trying to decide which doll to get first and it was between Pizzazz and Jem, ultimately Pizzazz won as she came with a cassette and my grandma liked her hair best.

Jem - Truly Outrageous VHS

One of the most important things in my Jem history is the Truly Outrageous VHS. I got this after I had got my first 2 dolls Pizzaz and Jem in 1986. I think I watched it nearly everyday. I still know all the words to this day.

When the Jem DVD's came out a few years back the first 5 episodes had extended scenes and changed scenes so thankfully the original version (and my old favourite) was released in the UK on DVD a few years ago.

I only originally had a few of the 1st year Flipside Fashions, "Up & Rockin', Like A Dream" as I only liked what I saw on the Truly Outrageous video. Since then I now have all the first year fashions.

The elusive 2nd years fashions. I don't own any at the moment but they are something I am going to look into when I have cleared my debts in 2012 lol!

City Lights Jerrica is pretty close to the cartoon version.

My friend made me the other parts to Jem's outfit to make it look like the cartoon version. I re-coloured Jems' hair to make her all pink!

I had Day to Night Barbie as a kid and I LOVED her! Her day fashion is very similar to Jem's 1986 Sophisticated Lady Flipside fashio.

The night fashion is beautiful, on one of the more pretty Barbie's of the era.

Sweet Roses P.J. is pretty cute, not my favoutite doll ever but I do love P.J. and got her for a bargain price from e-bay. She was originally scented but has since lost her smell.
